English College of Tangier “Chams School” National and British International School

Both sections of the school, National and British International, offer education from Pre-School to age 17/18 years. In the Early Years (equivalent to KG) all children follow the same curriculum, which is modelled on the Moroccan and British system. Before the children enter the Primary school, parents are asked to choose either the Moroccan National School or the British International School.

The British International School follows the British National Curriculum, with some adaptations to the local environment especially in Arabic, Islamic Studies and French. The curriculum is well-balanced, meets the needs of a wide range of children, and is very popular with parents.

In the Senior School, children take IGCSE , AS and A-level exams. The examination results in recent years have been outstanding, enabling students to enter good universities in Morocco and abroad.

The National School follows the prescribed Moroccan National Curriculum. The system relies heavily on rote learning, and although there is some continuous assessment, the emphasis is on set tests, mid-year and end-of-year exams. The process of education in the National School is strictly controlled by the Ministry of Education, in terms of curriculum, books and content. Whilst the school makes every effort to present courses in a lively way, the nature of the curriculum focuses on testing knowledge from the set books, rather than on developing skills.
